When Life Takes an Unexpected Turn

Hello readers! Yes, I’m still here. It’s been quite a while since I did an outfit post, and I think some of you know why. The last few months have been some of the most difficult of my life.

Let’s flashback to this date last year…on October 6, 2017 I was hospitalized because my appendix had burst. It was a very serious (and very painful) situation. The doctor said it was too dangerous for them to operate and was told that we’d likely do that in 6-8 weeks when it would be safe. After waiting 6-8 weeks, the doctor says my appendix is gone. That it must have burst off and dissolved because is wasn’t showing up in countless CT scans.

Flash forward to early this summer when I was still in discomfort. Something that felt tight and like a heavy balloon in my body had me very worried. I saw a few doctors and they said that I still do very much indeed have my appendix, and they wanted me to get it removed. They also found an endometrioma (from my endometriosis) that they would remove since it was sitting next to my appendix.

I went in for surgery on August 31, 2018 for what was suppose to be a quick laparoscopic procedure. I was told that I’ll likely go home that same day unless there were any complications. So when I woke up in the recovery room and was told that there were some serious complications I knew I’d be spending some quality time at the hospital. Basically, a cyst from my burst appendix and my endometrioma merged into a huge blob and there was no safe way for them to remove them without taking out 4 inches of my large and 4 inches of my small intestines. What a mess.

So over the last month or so I have been recovering very slowly. I’m finally feeling almost back to my normal self. I’m almost back to eating my normal diet and my stitches are starting to dissolve. My tummy has almost deflated back to normal too. I hope to start working out and walking Rocko again in the next few weeks.

So posting outfit photos on my blog has really been the last thing on my mind. Also, a lot of my clothing isn’t fitting me right now or they are bothering my stitches. So wearing huge muumuus it is! The dress I have one here I actually ordered off of Amazon when I was recovering and still wear it quite a bit.

All I know is that things are starting to look up. I’m trying very hard to be positive and focus on what is important to me. A few months ago I probably wouldn’t have even posted these photos because my dress is slightly wrinkled, there is a slight white mark on it, and my tummy looks so bloated. But today I’m just happy to be alive and not in as much pain as I had been before. I’m happy and that is all that should matter to anyone!

Weekend Casual

I might wear dresses 95% of the time, but I swear I do so for comfort.

There is nothing more weekend appropriate in my mind than an oversized dress, tote bag, and simple pair of sneakers. To me this look is 100000% more comfortable than a tee shirt and jeans.

Last week I discovered a new favorite store of mind, Aland. This Korean store just opened up their first location in the US and it's just down the street from me in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Super affordable pieces, most in a one size fits most size. I can't wait to go back!

Also, I know what you guys are saying...another striped dress? My love for stripes almost rivals my love for polka dots. I think it's starting to get a little out of control. But how could I say no to this oversized dress...the side slits alone won over my heart.

What does your typical weekend style look like?

My Love For Polka Dots

Okay, I think I might have a problem. I cannot control purchasing items in a polka dot print. This obsession is starting to take over my wardrobe.

Seriously though, I think 1/4 of my clothing that has a printed pattern on them is polka dots! Not that that's a bad thing...right? Polka dots are classic, they go with everything, and they always look chic. So I say, bring them on!

Do you happen to have a favorite print that you find yourself wearing all the time?

After a very stressful week (with so much going on with my health I am still wrapping my head around it...more on that later), I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend. Planning on watching the last weekend of the World Cup, spending some time outside, and maybe hitting up the farmers market. I might even post some more videos on my IGTV. Did you guys see my first super simple braiding tutorial? Let me know what you think of these!

What are you all up to this weekend?

There's No Place Like Home

Anytime I wear gingham and my pink sparkle booties someone feels the need to say I look like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. I don't get it...but whatever. So I thought I'd throw Rocko in and make him be my Toto. Isn't he adorable?

It wasn't until after I got home with this dress that I realized I already have a black and white gingham dress. I guess I know what I like! And one can never have too many black and white dresses...right?

I'm always about finding the best deals. Maybe I'm cheap...or just like saving money. But there is no better feeling than getting something on super sale. I stopped by Lord and Taylor this week as I knew they were having huge sales. You may have seen my purchases in my Instastory earlier this week. This adorable Kate Spade dress was originally $228 and I got it for only $57! It is not on their website...but I know the L&T in midtown Manhattan definitely has it (or at least they did as of Wednesday). So stop by if you are the city. Or check your local L&T as their stock in the store is often different than what is online (pro tip!). If you can't find it there it is also on sale on Kate Spade's website, although at not as big of a discount.

Hope you all have a happy Saturday!

The Bare Midriff

Today is hot, hot, hot. Staying as cool as possible while wandering around Brooklyn by letting my belly button breathe a little.

Every time I think of baring my midriff I get filled with anxiety...as well as think of my favorite Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, The Bare Midriff. Any Curb fans out there? If you are to only ever see one episode of that show I highly recommend that episode. Hilarious.

How do you guys keep cool in the summer time? Here in the city it gets super hot and humid. If you are not familiar with NYC summers I can sum it up in one word: miserable. Intense heat radiating off of buildings and the streets. It can be brutal. But I have to say, I do enjoy being in the city during the summer because everyone else goes away on the weekends (to the Hamptons or Jersey Shore) and it's like I have the city all to myself. There is nothing better than that.

Stay cool everyone, and have a great weekend!
