On Thanksgiving We Wear Velvet

I’ve been wearing tee shirts and leggings a little too much lately that I thought that today (Thanksgiving) would be the perfect day to dress up a little.

I wanted to dress up but still feel cozy. This velvet dress I picked up at Zara years ago is so perfect. It almost looks like a robe (maybe it is one?!) and I adore this shade of plum. The bell sleeves, geometric pattern, and tie detail give me all the ‘70s vibes I can handle.

I’m all for dressing up today but not for doing my hair. Can ya tell? HAHA! It was raining all morning long…so I had to pick my battles.

I wanted to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. My husband and I are staying home this year and having a Thanksgiving feast alone. We still have been avoiding people (you know, pandemic and all). We’ve decided to make ham instead of turkey and have a zillion sides. Just looking forward to a relaxing and yummy day. Also…if you haven’t seen I posted my homemade cranberry sauce recipe on my IG. So stop by and check it out.

What are your plans today?

Seasons Change

Every day it’s starting to feel more and more like fall. The leaves are changing and the air is crisp. It’s the perfect time of year for a casual and cuddly look.

Late October/early November is probably my favorite time of year. As excited as I am for it to be here already it’s making me wish time would slow down a bit. The year 2020 is flying by…and that’s probably a good thing (hello worst year ever!)…but I feel like when it flies by and nothing really happens it makes me feel so unproductive! So this weekend I’m going to try to do a few things to make me feel like I’m getting something accomplished. Isn’t that what weekends are for anyway?

My plans for this weekend include:

  • cleaning the apartment (typical weekend chores)

  • napping (maybe even more typical!)

  • cooking up some yummy fall food…okay let’s be real, Chris is cooking and I’ll just be eating. Some things I’m excited that he’s making are a butternut squash soup and a mushroom & leek bread. YUM!!!

  • taking care of poor Rocko’s allergies…his skin is a mess this time of year

  • folding a few more drawers the Marie Kondo way

  • reading a few more chapters of my book. It’s been my new year’s resolution to read one book a month which I was able to easily stick to.

  • get excited for the Biden/Harris texting training I’m taking on Monday so I can be part of their texting team. So excited to help get the word out to vote. We voted absentee a few days ago…more about that on my IG soon

What are you all up to this weekend? Try to get out a little and enjoy this weather…and PLEASE wear a mask! Again, these are the ones I have been wearing that I absolutely love. The masks with the adjustable ear straps are a game changer in my humble opinion.

October Vibes

I am soooooooo loving this cooler fall weather (and honestly I cannot wait for it to drop a few more degrees). One of my personal favorite fall looks always includes a long skirt and booties. LOVE!

I dressed up this simple tee with a midi skirt. Topped it with a belt and booties, and I’m good to go! What I love most about this skirt is how comfortable it is. It has an elastic waist band and pockets! Win win!!!

I love elevating my casual looks just slightly. Still looking relaxed and comfy…but a little more pulled together than if I would have paired this tee with jeans and a pair of flats or sneakers. I just love wearing dresses and skirts in fall. How do you typically dress in autumn?

Polka Dots Forever

FACT: My all time favorite print to wear is polka dots.

How many polka dot pieces in your wardrobe is too many? I have a lot…but I don’t think it’s nearly enough. Something about the print is classic, fun, feminine, trendy, and chic. Wearing it just makes me feel happy. Do you have a print that makes you feel happy to wear?

Here in NYC the weather has been fall perfection this weekend. I hope you all are out and about enjoying the crisp autumn air. Also, please be sure to wear your masks. I only took mine off to take these photos on an empty street…but wanted to send a link to my favorite masks. The ones with the ear adjusters are a game changer!!!

Unpopular Opinion

I’m about to tell you all something that I know will be extremely controversial…

One of the reasons I absolutely L-O-V-E fall weather is because incorporating tights into my wardrobe is one of my favorite things!

I know so many people wait until winter to start wearing them…and then as soon as spring has spring they go bare legged. But I’m always so cold, and to be honest tights (especially thinner ones like these) are so much lighter than jeans. Today the temps were in the low 50s this morning and will only get into the low 60s this afternoon. If that isn’t perfect weather for wearing tights then I don’t know what is!

When do you think typically break out tights? Do you love them or hate them???

Also, quick side note…this is my new favorite jacket. I am always on the lookout for a cute teddy bear jacket. Could this jacket be more cozy? My mom told me it makes me look like a goldendoodle…but I’ll take that as a compliment! HAHAHA!
